What documents are required for my marriage to be legally recognised?

If you want legal recognition of you marriage you will need to be married either through the Catholic Church or the Civil Registry. The former option is easier if you are not already a resident in Spain.

You require:
• Birth Certificates
• Baptismal Certificates
• Pre-marriage course certificate

In some cases you may also need your Confirmation Certificates, but this is rare. It takes about 4 months and we will guide you through the whole process.

If you want to get married through the Civil Registry here in Spain you need to have registered for residency a last two years prior to the wedding date AND have been a resident for 40 consecutive days before applying for a marriage licence.

  • How long have you been organizing Weddings?

We have been in existence since April 2002, when we did our first number of weddings. Since that time we have done over 60 weddings in more than 15 different venues.

How many Weddings do you do each year?

We limit ourselves to no more than 20 weddings in one year which are spread out at 3 week intervals. This is necessary so that we can dedicate as much time and effort to your wedding in the last crucial few weeks.
We do not do "production-line" weddings. Each couple has their own ideas about their ideal wedding. We do not dictate, but respect your requests to the last detail. Our personal care and attention to detail is our main strength.

How do we decide on the Venue?

We ask you to be as specific as possible on the type of venue you would like. We then send you information corresponding to this type of place and you select a number of these.
Then we agree on a date for you to come for a viewing, We also take you to see churches and photographers, taking complete advantage of the limited time you have. It is always best to arrive on a Friday morning and leave on Sunday.

Can I contact others who have been married through Catalan Wedding?

We are happy to provide you with contact details of couples who have been married through us. If you choose a particular venue, we will try and put you in touch with a couple who has already been married there.

Is it possible to have a mixed marriage through the Catholic Church in Spain?

If one of the partners is Catholic and the other partner has been baptized into another Christian church (Protestant, Baptist, Presbyterian etc), there is no problem. The non-Catholic will need to get permission in their country of residence to be married through the Catholic Church. If the future bride or groom is from a non-Christian faith it is also possible, but we will need to know details.
